Q&A
The KAIKU bag is made from BrightBio®KAIKU material, which is bio-based and designed to return back to the cycle once the bag is no longer in use. Unlike traditional coated textiles, it can be recycled at the end of its life and used as raw material for new products – meaning the bag won’t end up as waste. This way, we can perfect the circular cycle.
No, it isn’t. Even though the bag is made from bio-based materials, it is not biodegradable. It’s designed to stand the test of time and varying conditions. When the bag reaches the end of its lifecycle, it can be returned to Lovia, where it will be directed to proper recycling with Brightplus. This way, the resources can be returned to the cycle.
BrightBio® KAIKU is made from bio-based, renewable raw materials like soybean oil and non-edible biomass derived from industrial side streams. In practice, it's made from completely clean natural raw materials that would otherwise go to waste or incineration. The material is produced energy-efficiently, with minimal water usage, and contains no harmful PFAS compounds or toxic chemicals. It meets upcoming EU ecodesign regulations, which require recyclability and responsible material choices.
The bag material is highly durable and has excellent tensile strength. It has been tested for resistance to water, UV radiation, abrasion, and tearing. Its functionality matches that of traditional plastic coatings, and the bag is crafted with Lovia’s well-known quality standards. The material is bio-based, and the bag is handmade by artisans. It is well-suited for everyday regular use but, like any product, is not meant for extreme conditions. The unique material also gives the bag highly practical features; it is water-resistant and very easy to maintain. Valuable resources have gone into making this bag, so we always recommend taking the best possible care of it. You can find the care instructions here.
Yes, the bag’s material can be easily repaired, but it’s best done by a professional. BrightBio® material can be reshaped using heat – for example, scratches can be fixed by re-forming the material. If your bag gets damaged, please contact us at hello@loviacollection.com
The bag can be recycled by returning it to Lovia or Brightplus. It will be mechanically shredded into small pieces and then melted down. From these, new filaments and granules are produced, which can be reused in fabric and coating production. This way, the material stays in the cycle of resources without losing its quality.
Every action we take has an echo – by choosing the KAIKU bag (Finnish word for echo), you're supporting a more responsible future and participating in the next step of a circular economy. When a bag is 100% recyclable, its valuable resources are secured even after use. The material doesn’t become waste but can be turned into new products, reducing environmental impact and promoting more sustainable consumption.
This bag uses recycled polyester as the base material, meaning no virgin oil was required for its production. Combined with BrightBio® – which is chemically similar to polyester – the different components can be recycled together. This ensures the entire bag can be recycled in a closed loop with no material loss.
