FINNISH DESIGN STRIDES TOWARDS MODERN CIRCULATION TOGETHER

We both believe, that change has to start already on the design table. Lovia and Hakola share the core value to create long-term items that last, where the entire life cycle is considered already in the sketching phase. By joining forces we can extend our life cycle thinking even further. In this perfect partnership the high quality Hakola furniture materials serve as a starting point for new trash creations by Lovia.

BELOVED CLASSICS DRESSED IN HAKOLA TEXTILES

There are many combining factors between Lovia and Hakola, from both material and design choices through to comprehensive transparency. Both have high respect for traditional artesan craftsmanship and Finnish roots, where also the functional and long-lasting design stems from.
With this collaboration two of our beloved bag designs are dressed in much requested textile materials.        Same as the furniture industry excess leather we utilise, also the interior textiles of Hakola are made to stand the test of time.
”I have been following the amazing story of Lovia attentively from the beginning and it has been lovely to get to collaborate with a brand that is authentically responsible. It is great to see how our excess materials get a new life in the hands of Lovia!”

MATERIAL USAGE

At the Hakola factory all leather covers and some of the textiles are still cut by hand, creating far less excess material from the cutting process. At Lovia the bags are designed as a puzzle with the cutting waste pieces left, making each seam count. Production moves starting from larger items onto wallets and other smaller leather goods.

GATHERED MATERIAL

In the upholstery stage the furniture artesans of Hakola gather cutting waste for Lovia. Sofas and armchairs require larger surfaces, and from the edges of leather hides and textile materials smaller pieces perfect for bags are left over. The material is stored in Finland and delivered to Italy according to orders via land freight.

THE ROLE OF A SINGLE BAG

Each individual bag is a concrete step towards minimising waste. The high quality material that could have before been treated as trash, ends up getting a new valuable life. We hope that your own bag can serve as a reminder of the large impact smaller actions together create.

JOURNEY OF THE MATERIAL

1. Jurva, Finland
The journey of the excess materials begins at the Hakola factory in Jurva. The artesans in charge of cutting collect the cutting waste into separate boxes for Lovia.
2. Helsinki, Finland
Next the material arrives at Lovia, where they are given new life on Outi's design table. Marianna handles the material management and prepares the production shipments.
3. Seregno, Italy
The materials are then delivered via land freight to artesan Fulvio's team in Northern Italy, Milan area. Their nine-person team has experience in luxury bag production from over three decades as well as the tools to give this material an exceptionally long life time.
4. Next adventure
From Italy the bags travel back to us in Helsinki. From the showroom or via the online store you get to choose your own treasure. This is how the bag created from excess material finds a new home and you get to decide, how its future decades will look like.
