This fine, soft, and beautifully patterned material could easily be mistaken for snake skin. Yet this exquisite leather is not to be found in the deserts or rainforests, but in the dark, icy waters of Finland's many lakes.
Pike perch utilised for fish skin panels of the Saimi bag has been fished at Vieksinjoki and is a by-product of food. The pike perch has been tanned by hand utilising an ancient tanning method with a stock made out of fir bark by Ulla Haverinen. Only natural ingredients have been used in the entire tanning process.
