Lovia’s recycled leather and fur materials go through at least six pairs of hands at the Helsinki Metropolitan Area Re-use Centre before being picked up to the Lovia atelier.

Environmental Administrator Marja Peltola looks after that the process runs smoothly in her team of 15 employers, some of them with a background of long-term unemployment.

“This is my dream job. The atmosphere is great and I get to combine all of the three degrees I have: environmental administrating, dressmaking & business,” Marja says.

Marja leads the handicraft service that provides creative workshops, re-used craft materials for sale & for free for educators and other non-commercial uses.

“As I started studying environmental administration the whole environmental industry was generally pretty much frowned upon. These days it’s easy to be proud of what I do.“
